Safety:
Sequential Compression Devices and Compression Garments for DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and PE (pulmonary edema) prevention. In 2008 the FDA sent out a call to action to inform the medical community of the risk factors of DVT and the methods available to help prevent DVT. We provide devices that can be used in the hospital and taken home. Primary in this list is the VascuTherm 2 by ThermaTek.
Accelerating Recovery:
Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation (often refered to as RICE) sounds easy at first. However, it is very difficult to get a restful night while doing the other 3. Game Ready and VascuTherm both provide a programed unit and ergonomic wraps that provide intermitent cooling and programable compression. Many attribute their rapid recovery to the vascular response intermittent compression provides. These tools also reduce edema and the pain associated with swelling. The reduction of edema also helps you make the most of your time with your physical therapist.
Pain Management:
While it is important to take your medication, many seek to reduce their use of pain medications through the use of a cooling and compression regime. Many find that the cooling and compression provided by Game Ready is helpful in their reduction of pain. Anecdotal evidence indicates that a regiment of contrast, or cooling followed intermitantly with heat, is even more helpful in dealing with the pain associated with recovery from surgery or cronic pain. Pain Management Technologies provides an affordable product that provides contrast: the Aqua Relief System. The VascuTherm 2 and Vascutherm 3 also provides programed iceless contrast coupled with compression.
Mobility: Finding a way to function safely while fully off-loading a knee or ankle can be a challenge. We have researched a variety of crutches and crutch altenatives to meet a wide variety of doctor orders and patient abilities. Some of the excellent products we have both rent and sell are:
The Freedom Leg by Forward Mobility. This product provides 100% offloading from the knee down, enabling on to walk hands free while fully offloading their knee, tib/fib, ankle or foot. We are one of the only locations where you can rent a Freedom Leg.
The Vergon knee walker by Kneal. With a rear wheel swivel and dual disc brakes, this is one of the best knee walkers available.
The Medline knee walker called the Weil is also a great product. Although heavier than the Vergon, it folds down further and is a good choice if you are hard, or heavy, on equipment.
Range of Motion: After a total knee surgery, knee manipulation or a shoulder capsular release it is important to ensure ROM is maintained and improved. Having tried out a number of different CPM models and brands, we are very proud to carry the Kinetic Spectra by Sammons & Preston. Coupled with the Sherpa soft goods, this is the most comfortable, durable and easy to use CPM available. We have a large fleet of these available for rental. Bracing: We carry both Breg and Don Joy OA, post operative and preventative bracing. These two companies have you covered neck to toe with the best slings, braces, ankle and wrist lacers available.
Affordability: We are cognizant that none of these provide any benefit if you cannot afford them. We are also aware how often patients find an unexpected expense where they thought they had coverage. We will be absolutely upfront about what coverage you can expect and how to find out as much as you can in advance.
